Introduction:
https://bloggingasprofessionaldevelopment.blogspot.com
Hi, I’m Carolyn Creighton, a retired teacher and
administrator, working to keep my Alabama certification. I want this blog to
challenge me to continued learning, even though this one added a few gray
hairs. Blogging as Professional Development gives a different "eye' on the
world
Content and Structure:
Each
entry to date establishes a foundation for future growth. As it is public,
peers are free to comment and I hope you will. Teamwork is what elearning is
all about!
Process Reflection:
I selected a simple template that parallels my personal
writing blog. I like simplicity if content is the core of the project. I chose
a template I use in personal writings; so I can merge the two after this class
is over should I choose to do so.
Other Thoughts about blogging since this is my fourth re-do.
Not everyone will think of a blog as professional development, but to get to this point and create a 4th blog (not to interfere with my personal writing blog) took more time and effort than I expected. Google makes it easier, but the entries may vary, depending upon what the writer decides should be in a professional, shareable one.
I have worked at adding visual things that make it more appealing. I can see why people are hesitant to start a blog, especially when they don't use google as their search engine. I have mine written down so you and I both can refer to it. Mine is plain vanilla and at the same time, I don't want it to be busy with superfluous things. If writing is the heart, then I want it to stand out.
The other thing I thought about was hacking, but you really have to be "out there" to find a specific blog to hack. So, I am assuming this is a safe way to transfer PD thoughts, intents, suggestions, sharing, and collegiality.
Things I wanted to add independently:

The Alabama Course of Study (COS) serves as the
foundation for K-12 education in Alabama’s public schools. so give
me a reference point for storage as needed.

I can
come back and add resources as I need to. This proves both helpful and
timesaving.

The Oyez Project
This website is so interesting and useful for the US Supreme Court cases. The Oyez Project is an unofficial online multimedia archive website for the Supreme Court of the United States. It was initiated by the Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago-Kent College of Law and now also sponsored by Cornell Law School Legal Information Institute and Justia. (wikipedia source).

My personal learning network has changed during the course of this workshop. Discuss your plans for how you plan to continue to grow your learning network and how you hope to contribute to the professional learning of your administrative colleagues. (PROMPT CHOICE)
ReplyDeleteMy PLN was haphazard and to a degree still is. When I built the Twitter/X account, I could make comments on things of the day as I selected only educational categories. It does serve a purpose and I'm still determining what I will do with it when this class is over. (@Carolyncre83866--goes to Twitter; click on Twitter, then scroll down to Profile and my picture and comments will show. I don't think that is a good choice as yet, but it may have some continued use; therefore, I will not close it for a few weeks as I look over my choices.) The hardest thing has been the blog to date. Now that I have re-done it four times, I want to make one that is separate from the EDU5506 class to see what else I can do with it.
I don't want to overlook learning technology from peers and I would like a space for screen shots to compare what I know with what I need to know. Having classmates participate by using my blog will be helpful. The other change I have noted is that I want to go beyond educational leadership and enjoy some blogs that contain content in the humanities. I thank classmates who finally did find my blog (my bad) and for encouragement to continue. Just because the class is ending does not mean that my learning should.
Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteBlogs can be tricky and it's a little hard to figure out if they have published since it is usually under your own account. Great job for figuring it out! I haven't seen any recent admins in my school district use blogs anymore, but more of a digital newsletter type of format. I do like the idea of us adding videos and using this format for professional uses.
